I decided to take myself shopping and to a movie tonight. Went to my fave mall (especially since it's so close!)...yes, Ibn Battuta. Dubai Summer Surprises sales are still running and I found a couple of things I couldn't live without. ;-) While I was there I got to see Mr Battuta himself, or at least a spongy puffy version of him! LOL I could possibly have gotten a better picture but I was suddenly struck by the BO of the man next to me and had to hold my breath and hurry! (I think the deodorant companies need to do a LOT more marketing here.) For some reason they also had a parade: pic1, pic2. Grabbed some yummy Lebanese food at the food court. (I reckon their food court has some great places.) Then I went to see the movie Crash. Actually, I should say "film". And I'm officially now in love Don Cheadle, or at least the films he's in. Magnificent flick. I love how the various stories all tie together in the end. The racism (which is pretty much what this movie is about) was very confronting and uncomfortable at times for me. But that's not a bad thing. Challenges what you think of yourself. There was also something special about seeing this movie with the audience I did. I walked out with dishdasha-ed men, abaya-ed women, Indians, Pakistanis, North Americans, and white woman me (carrying my shopping bags). I really enjoyed this movie, and am still thinking about the messages in it. Oh, and I was pleasantly surprised by Ludacris of music fame. I kinda rolled my eyes when I saw his name in the opening credits, but he was excellent.
